The Importance of Melatonin

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone secreted by the body’s pineal gland. It is vital because it regulates our body’s internal clock, also known as circadian rhythm. In addition, melatonin plays a part in the production of other hormones, destruction of free radicals, and defense against cancer. It is a very powerful, natural antioxidant.

Our body’s production of melatonin is influenced by the amount of light in our environment. We produce melatonin at night, when it is dark.

Turn your cell phone off to get a good night sleep.

It is secreted only when we sleep and the pineal gland senses no light. This is the time when the brain oversees general cellular repair and replacement.

It has been found that the production of melatonin by the pineal gland is suppressed when we are exposed to EMR, since the brain interprets man-made radio waves as light waves. Low levels of melatonin result in sleep disturbances, heart complications, and other health problems related to disturbance of the immune system. In addition, the body’s defense against free radicals is compromised. Remember, free radicals are the basis of all diseases.

It is very important to keep your sleeping area free of any EMF-producing devices. When retiring for the night, turn off all wireless devices and sources of light to allow the natural repair of our cells by melatonin.
